Tamil Sangam Diwali Party

The Tallahassee Tamil Sangam celebrated the Diwali with a evening party on Saturday, November 12, 2011. About 50 families brought in pot-luck dinner items, snacks, party supplies, and fireworks to the party.

The program started at 6:00 PM at the Rec Hall in FSU Alumni Village. The snacks were served first and around 7 PM all the kids were invited to a short fireworks fun. Many parents brought their own fireworks (only those approved in the State of Florida). The adults watched over the fun in a basketball court (concrete floor).

Then at 7:45 the dinner was served and then the kids put on two dance items. Then the dessert was served. By 9:30 we completed the party and everyone pitched in to clean

எந்திரன் தமிழ் படம்; Enthiran, The Robot Movie

The Tamil movie Enthiran, The Robot  (எந்திரன் தமிழ் படம்) was screened today at the Tallahassee Movies 8 cine complex. Couple of people from local Tallahassee Desi Movies brought this movie to town.

There were about 70-80 people (including kids) at the auditorium during the screening. The movie features Tamil movie star Super Star Rajini Kanth ரஜினிகாந்த் (name at birth, Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, to a Marathi family) and Aishwarya Rai ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய் in a futuristic movie about the interactions of humans and humanoids.

The movie included lots of animaiton and computer generated graphics. The movie scenes were shot at Peru and Brazil in addition to India. It was the first Tamil movie we saw this year.

We all enjoyed the movie.

Due to concerted efforts of good folks in Tallahassee, we were able to go Aadhavan Tamil movie at Movies 8 on a Saturday night. It was a okay movie, long, melodramatic, and with expected ending. But, remember, we are talking about a vanilla Tamil movie. Cost of the tickets for adult was $10 and children $5.

Anyway, we enjoyed it thanks to some entrepreneurial folks in Tallahassee. Keep up the good work.

Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park

 With Manoharan family, Vasudevan family and our family organizing a Tamil Sangam Picnic at Wakulla Springs State Park, the turn-out was okay. Since we thought about it only a week ago,  it was the long Labor Day week-end, and a Sunday afternoon many people couldn’t make it.But those assembled set-up the picnic table in one of the covered canopy around Noon. The young ones immediately headed to the water at the Wakulla Springs itself. After swimming for about hour and half most of the people became hungry. We had our lunch.Then we started to play touch-football, volleyball, and finally the quint essential Indian sport, Cricket. Most of the kids participated in the games. Then it was to the waters again. The weather was in lower ninties and there were scatttered clouds but no rain. Finally around  5 PM we started to drive back home. International Mother Language Day

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1999 declared February 21 as the International Mother Language Day. So today Saturday, February 21, 2009 on the eleventh anniversary I learned about this day and want to celebrate my mother language Tamil. Let the ancient dravidian language of Tamil prosper for ever!

1999 ல் ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் கல்வி, அறிவியல், பண்பாட்டு நிறுவனம் பிப்ரவரி, 21-ம் தேதியை உலகத் தாய் மொழி நாள் என்று அறிவித்தார்கள். இன்று 11-வது வருட நினைவு நாளில் இந்த விஷயத்தை அறிந்தேன். எனவே இன்று என் தாய் மொழியான தமிழ் வளரவும், பரவவும் ஆசைப்படுகிறேன்.

வாழ்க தமிழ்! வளர்க தமிழ்! பெருகுக தமிழ்! தமிழ் மணம் எங்கும் வீசட்டும்!
