Middle School Year-End Choir

Friday, January 30, 2009; 5:30-6:15 PM

This evening we had the middle school year-end choir. It was conducted under the new tent accquired by the school. First Kindergarten kids performed their musical numbers, about four of them.

Then the middle school and elementary school performed their musical numbers about six of them. In some there were more students than the rest due to the need for saparanos.

Despite the cold weather it was fun to watch the kids sing.

We observerd the 60th Indian Republic Day Anniversary in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. About 50 people attened the event. Dr Swamy spoke about the Indian republic, its leaders both past and current, about the people of India and entrepreuners of India. Adults and children sang patriotic songs. Light snacks were served after the event.

Below Freezing Temperatures

Icicle Garland on Trees

Below freezing temperatures in Tallahassee, it was just 28 deg F at 7:45 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 (it was much lower overnight) and the automatic sprinklers that went off even on a cold day brought out beautiful icicle garlands on trees and shrubs.

The photos shows some pictures of of the icicle garlands in our neighborhood Gardens of Weems Plantation in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. Enjoy!

2009 பொங்கல் விழா

Dr Mano and Mrs Priya arranged for a Pongal vizha for Tamil loving people of Tallahassee, Florida, USA. The celebration began with about 50 people gathering together for an evening of drawing of kolam, prayer, play for kids, preparation of sweet pongal, and eating of a communal dinner.

First nine separate teams of ladies and children participated in kolam drawing competition using colored kolam powder on black plastic sheets. The friendly event kept the whole crowd interested in the activity. The teams worked on their kolam for about an hour. Three non-partisan judges evaluated the team’s work and prizes were given to first (1 team) and second place (3 teams).

பொங்கல் விழா ஒளவையாரின் “பாலும் தெளி தேனும்” கடவுள் வாழ்த்துடன் துவங்கியது (விவேக் மற்றும் சோமு). பின்னர் குழங்தைகள் விளையாட்டுப் போட்டி நடந்தது.  இனிப்பு பொங்கல்  தயாரான உடன் அனைவரும் உண்டு களித்தோம்.
